Chinese font too small

Windows Mobile Pocket PC

I have purchased the English Chinese dictionary for Pocket PC and I have the latest version:

V3.0.0.3

I am currently learning chinese, and the chinese font is way too small to read and recognise properly. Is there any way to increase the font size, or do you have a version with a larger font?

Cheers,
Dominic

font size

... good question. In the current version unfortunately you can't adjust the font size. However

1. We will support it as an option in the next release or update. We can notify you when it is available.

2. We will release a web-based dictionary, hopefully by the end of this year, which will allow you to change font size in your browser.

Thanks.

Font still too small

Bought version V3.0.1.0 and chinese font size in study mode is still too small, and no way to adjust it. Is there any registry setting that can be altered to change this?

only study mode?

Is the font in the study mode smaller than the normal mode? What is your device make and model?

I think the main problem is

I think the main problem is that the font in study mode is in bold, and of very small size as well. It all becomes a blob of black. Anyway, I think that when studying characters like this, you should make them as big and visible as possible.

The font in the dictionary selection lists is much better, both bigger and lighter.

My device is a Qtek s200 running WM5.0.

font in definition view

What about the font in definition view? (You can find out what is definition view on page http://www.hnhsoft.com/dictec). Is it better or the same?

The font in the definition

The font in the definition view is slightly better because it is slightly bigger, but it is still bold, and for more complex characters, it becomes difficult to read.

By far the most readable font (for non-chinese obviously) is the one used in the word list selector.

For some reason, the character that you are supposed to study in the study mode is the smallest of them all :)

special build with bigger font

Please download a special bigger font build from www.hnhsoft.com/products/beta/dictEC-bigfont.zip.

After downloading, unzip the file and use the dictEC.exe file to replace the current one on your device.

Patch works

Hi,

Thanks for the patch. It works, as the font is much more readable. I still think you might want to consider increasing the font size as well on the main display character(s) in a final version of this. Maybe make it double the size. It is useful when you are learning how to write the character, as in that way you get all the fine details of the strokes.

thanks

Great. We will consider supporting a configurable font size (or a bigger font) in the next release.

Good idea

I checked this dictionary out with a number of other dictionaries including Mike Love's PlecoDict, Dr eye, ver 1 and 2, octopus, mdict, ectaco and a couple of others.

I checked this one out in Demo in Ver 2 and 3, and a couple of friends recently purchased ver 3. What I love about this dictionary are the large number of words that are available, even including some of the extremely technical words in my recent Biochemistry and Nutrition English/Chinese course here in Taiwan. I was happy to see words such as 'choline' 'antioxidant' 'aryl' 'amine' 'refringent' and others pop up with little or no difficulty.

The issue of small and uncontrollable fonts is particularly noticeable when using VGA. The in-program font does not appear to be VGA compatible at all, although the input box does use a VGA friendly font which looks excellent on a Pocket LOOX 720.

Pleco has an excellent treatment of this by also having a button to do a large calligraphy-friendly display of the character with easily visible stroke indications which is especially useful for chinese learners such as myself.

I use CEStar's Penpower module to provide handwriting recognition as well as the Chinese enabling for my English Pocket PC. I also have a 320x240 device that uses chinese natively.

I noticed the rather surprising lack of an options section which would seem to be the most logical place for a font configuration.

As an addendum, I just tried the bigfont and it works fine, although it does add a slight oddity with the page layout. It's fine for the interim, but this is probably the biggest issue with the overall look and feel so far.

New Font

I just tried the new font. It is a little easier to read but now the button for "add to study" disappeared.

Please add an options tab/menu with all options available. Including font options. Lingvosoft has a great options tab with various sizes of fonts (up to 24pt). I would like to see up to 36pt or bigger so that all strokes can be quickly and easily read. Learning Chinese is hard enough already. Please don't make it more difficult by making us guess what the characters are.

I understand that it isn't practical to have the main search menu font large, but in the definition adn study screens, it would be extremely benificial.

Thanks for trying to make a larger font.

What font did you add? Where did you get the new font file?
